NEVER cut or tear the cuticles. True cuticle is the translucent skin that grows forward from between the epony****m and the nail plate from the proximal nail fold. What you are tearing or biting at is actually LIVE tissues - the epony****m. Instead of biting or tearing, try using one of the cuticle removers on the market today. Ask your local Nail Salon to order you a bottle of Cuticle Remover made by Creative Nail Design. You will apply it to your fingers, leave it on for three minutes, rinse well with water, then slough off the skin that has been loosened by the remover. Follow this with an application of jojoba oil mixed with vitamin E. 4oz. of jojoba to 1oz of vitamin E. Apply this mixture to your skin and nails at least twice daily and always right before bedtime.
