skin very dry and itchy after shower

okay, so every time i take a shower, I get out dry myself off put some clothes on. About 10 minutes later my skin becomes very dry, so i put on some moisturizer and that works. However, when I go to sleep I can only sleep on my back because any other way I try i get really really itchy. If i don't take a shower and go to sleep im fine i can sleep however. Any input as to what this could be?

thanks.

Re: skin very dry and itchy after shower

You can trap moisture in the skin the sooner you apply lotion or cream after a shower. So do it right when you get out. Eucerin is great, I use it for my psoriasis, but try an ultra-healing lotion like Lubriderm or Curel first and see if this works first. The Ultra-healing Curel is great, I use it every day and I don't have dry skin anymore (my psoriasis is on my scalp, face and neck).

Sounds like dry skin. First & foremost do not shower in hot water use the coolest water temp that you can tolerate. unless u are actually dirty don't use soap every time u bathe except in areas that stay warm/moist (underarms, under breast, & private areas). use soap that contains lotion such as dove. blot yourself dry & immediately apply a moisturizer. I have been there & done that & this is what my dermatologist recommended, including not using soap except in the special areas. I have a lot less itching now.

Re: skin very dry and itchy after shower

If this come's up 2x sorry, I don't see my first post, so here I go again

I found that any commercial bar soap, even the one's that contain moisutizers are drying on my skin. Try a glycerin soap. Next after you turn off the water, before you dry off use Neutrogena Body oil (Light Sesame oil) do not use baby oil or mineral oil, it does not moisurize and is bad for your skin. after you pat dry, apply a light moisturizer, try to find one at a health food store that does not contain meneral oil.

Also, try taking an Omega-3 fatty acid supplement (fish oil). You will notice a difference after a few weeks.
