Weird rash-like symptom - Skin Problems Message Board

Hi everyone

I'm from California. On September 2, I went to Maui. On September 3rd, I developed a rash on only the backs of my hands, wrists, and forearms consisting of tiny pink spots that itch and throb. I went to the doc in Maui and he told me that it was no big deal- probably just an allergic reaction, but the rash is still here and it's been almost 2 weeks. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? By looking at pics on the internet, it almost looks like a very mild case of eczema, however, i've never had anything like this happen before. i'm not sure if this matters or not, but i'm on retin-a and doxycycline (both make me sensitive to sun) and I have fair skin, but I try to stay in the shade and wear sunscreen. If anyone has any idea what this might be PLEASE let me know!!! if it doesn't go away soon, i'll make an appt. with my regular physician. THANKS

I have had a similar rash, and am on oral doxycycline. My derm diagnosed me with a yeast infeciton of the skin - pityrosporum folliculitis. Oral antibiotics can lead to yeast overgrowth on the skin, and sun exposure can make it worse. Have your dermatologist do a skin scraping to diagnose it correctly. It clears up pretty easily with an antifungal cream (and you have to stop the doxy). Hope this helps.
