I get dry, cracked lips that get a crusty-like scab as they heal. Then the scab or crust falls off, and just when the lips appear to be healed, the process starts all over again. The lips get chapped-like, all crusty and scabby, once again, and stay that way for a few days until the scab falls off and the lips appear to be healed. But, no, here comes the chapped sensation once again. This process is endless, happens in any season, and has been on-going for two years or more. What's the deal? Is it like an infection? What's the cure? I use a lip balm. I have tried various ones.

I get lip cracking as well since replacing amalgams with composites. I believe the composite fillings and the recurrent decay they allow is the cause of the problem.
