puffy eyes/ dry eyelids

for the past month, the skin on and around my eyelids has been extremly dry. eveynight i coat neosporin on them and its fine but if i skip a night i look like a snake. now for the past 2 weeks or so i have been waking up with extremly puffy eyes..the skin under my eyes and the eyelips..i dont know what is causing this. i am not allergic to anything...i have been putting "allergy" eyedrops but that only helps when my eyes begin to burn/ itch
i kno this sounds like an allergy...but could it be anything else?
also is there anything else i can do for the syntoms?
i am starting to take a non- drowsy allergy medicne in the morning b4 school (im 15)
any help woulp be appreciated

Re: puffy eyes/ dry eyelids

I have been experiencing the same thing for about 6 months. I have been to a few eye docs and been a diff eye drops and creams. I'll fill you in on my condition to see if it can help you.

The name for eyelid inflamation is blepharitis- and it can be kept under control using eyelids scubs (otc) and baby shampoo. The goal is to keep the lids as clean as possible.

You may be experiencing allergies- are your eyes dark underneath? Are they itching? You maybe have allergies to something in the environment or something you are putting on your face. Drops can help with environmental allergens. Be careful trying different OTC drops w/o docs advice beacause some can make worse (such as visine).

Have you tried any new eye makeup? New Eyeliner?

Do you wear contacts? My doc now thinks that mine is relalted to my contacts/ are or solution b/c we have tried almost everything else. So I am experimenting with diff. ones. He also has me on steriod creams to help my eyelids.

I would try using lid scubs to keep lash line as clean as possible. Go get new mascara if you are like me and feel naked w/o it.

If you look up the symptoms to bleph. and think it is that that warm compresses can help. If you think it is allergy related then I find that cold works best.

I have all the info on the diff drops/ and creams I have tried so please feel free the keep posting questions and I'll try to help in way I can. I know how frustrating this can be...I am young too (23) and as girls we always want to look our best!!

Get back to me on what you think and maybe we can help eachother!!

Take care, and remember that is just a matter of figuring out what is it and almost everything is controlable.

P.S. Stop using the neosporin. If is it just dry skin (ezcema) then HydroCortizone will work better) If is is ezcema I think that you will have dry skin in other places as well. Go to the eye board- it is helpful!

Re: puffy eyes/ dry eyelids

A tough problem, I know. I had dry flaky eyelids once--don't know if it was similar to your problem. ALL, I repeat ALL, eye or cleaning products interfered with my skin healing, except Aveeno Balancing Bar for Combination Skin. Unfortunately, most baby shampoo is NOT non-irritating, it can actually CAUSE dermatitis. When you wash your hair, make sure the soapy water doesn't fall across your face.

There is actually an article in a peer reviewed medical journal about baby shampoo causing eyelid eczema or some kind of dermatitis!

Re: puffy eyes/ dry eyelids

YES!!! Along with the dark circles, my doctors keeps trying to convience me that the wrinkles will go away, but they are still there. I still have hope and am trying everything possible, I have an apt with an eyelid specialist next week. How long have had eye allergies. What all have you tried? My doc has been on Aristocort A, and I am seeing some improvements with it. Look up "Dennie Lines" on the web, I read about it on some UK sites, from what I can understand, the lines are not wrinkles (whew) but instead from fluid under the skin. Keep me posted on your condition and maybe we can figure this out.

Re: puffy eyes/ dry eyelids

thx 4 the replies ppl.
my eye lids have not improved....after i get out of the shower @ night my eyes are not flaky but they feel really tight..so i have continued using neosporin bc other creams get in my eye and hurt...when i wake up they are all flakey still
my mom wont take me to the derm or anything bc she thinks it will just cost a lot and he wont even do anything or w/e so yea
my friend says to start using eye cream..like the kinda women use for wrinkles so idk if that would work but my eye lids look so gross

Re: puffy eyes/ dry eyelids

Hey, i have dry/puffy eyes too.. um.. but i have psiriousis. I know this for sure because i go the the dermatologist about twice a year. I have it on my eyelids also, i put vaseline on them in night time and it gets it under control, i also use special creams that my dermatologist recommends. I hope you find a solution !
