Hello all, I am new to the boards here, seems like a nice place!!

Anyway, I have this condition that has persisted for something like ten years now, I'm 25 btw.

Around my nose, the skin is very very red, but is unrelated to blushing or flushing. And, all over my face and scalp, the skin is very dry and flaky all the time, but especially when I get up the morning and after I'm out of the shower. I've used the same lotion (Cetaphi) for a long time, it masks the flakiness to some degree, but not the redness, and I know that it's not really getting at the underlying caused. I browsed around this forum and a few others and didn't see anything quite like what I gots. Any suggestions??

Hey MJ. My first suggestion would be to take shorter showers and turn down the temperature of the water. Sounds like you are severely drying out your skin and then trying to mask it with lotion. Give it a week and I bet you will see some results. If not, I'd change to another lotion. They all have different ingredients and work better with certain skin types. Lubriderm seems to work best for me and my sensitive skin. I've noticed during the winter months that having a humidifier in my bedroom keeps the furnace heated air from drying out my skin as well. It might be worth the investment. Just my .02 but I hope it helps.

I'm going to get an appointment with a dermatologist also. The interweb is great and all but will never replace doctors.

Mr. Jones, I know EXACTLY what your going through. I have not been able to find ANYONE on any message boards or chatrooms that described the skin problem i have as well as you just did.

I have very dry skin all over my face and neck. Odd thing is, its ONLY on my face and neck. It feels very tight and in the mornings its especially dry, tight, and a bit irritated as well. It gets extremely tight when i walk out of the shower as well and i have even used the EXACT same lotion (cetaphil) as you. I have tried aloe vera gel, pure aloe, cetaphil, kerri, eucerin, AHAs, jojoba oil, ZNP bar (dermatitus soap), and MSM cream. None of these have helped much and i still have the problem to this day. Also, i dont know if its the same for you, but if i dont wash my face at all (no water even) my face tends to get even MORE flakey than if i AM washing. i get the redness on the sides of my nose really bad and in my eyebrows. This condition (whatever it is) is actually very uncomfortable and sometimes downright painful. Please keep in touch with me on this if you can as id really appreciate your input. At least that way between the two of us we might be able to narrow down the cause.
