Red bumps after tanning?

I have been to the tanning bed 3 times now. After the 1st and 3rd session I noticed a few small, pink itchy bumps scattered on my body. They go away within about 24 hours. I was wondering if anyone else has had these after tanning, and what they are. If anyone knows it would be great. Also.... does anyone know about tanning and stretch marks? I have heard that tanning can help disguise stretchmarks, but have also heard the exact opposite. As you can probably guess I'm new to tanning... so any input would be really awesome. Thanks!

Re: Red bumps after tanning?

OK...so no replies yet. Anyway, this time around the bumps have not gone away. I still have them and they have spread. Since they are so itchy I thought maybe it could be poison ivy - but I now know it is not. The bumps are a little big for ivy and when I get it, it spreads extremely fast all over my body and I swell up like a balloon and require medical attention (I have a severe allergy to poison ivy and the like). I've heard that this could be from too much UV exposure too fast, but I have only spent a total of 27 minutes in the tanning bed in just over a week. I also heard that someone who used the bed before me could have used 'tingle factor' and then empolyees may not have cleaned the bed well - giving me an allergic reaction. Then I was told I could be allergic to the bronzer I used on my 3rd visit. I'm soooo confused and sooo itchy!!! If anyone has any ideas to help me out I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Re: Red bumps after tanning?

My little sis had this same problem after tanning only the bumps were on her face. And right before spring break! She was traumatized! I'm not sure exactly what about the beds causes it but once you have it, the sun seems to make it worse. Hers started on her forehead and spread all down her face until she started staying out of the sun, using cold compresses, and calamine lotion. After she started doing this, they faded after about 5 days.
