Band-Aid gell strips on incision, question. - Skin Problems Message Board

Earlier in the week a month old surgical incision reopened. The surgeon says not to worry, so there isn't much I can do about it. Anyway, since an open wound on my belly is now my new normal I need to determine the best way to keep it covered. I have to cover it due to drainage.

The adhesives in regular bandages badly irritate my skin, so I was wondering if there is any danger in the gel bandages. They are advertised as hypoallergenic, but you have to keep them on for days, which sounds like it could cause infection.

Does anyone know?

Hi there, sorry, sorta late with a reply so you may have already made a decision.

But I would've stayed away from the gel bandages and opted for non-stick pads and some 'paper tape' for sensitive skin. I used bandaids for a while on a wound and it irritated my skin as well, so I tried the pads and 'sensitive skin' tape and it worked better.

I'm surprised your incision opened up after a month. I was wondering what the incision was from? A minor or major surgery? I'm reaching a month on an incision I've got.

Are you sure your doc can't do anything for you? Maybe use something to close it back up?
