Red face Severe itching after showering

Sometimes, not everytime, I take a shower my whole body starts to itch really bad and nothing will make it stop, the itching goes away after about 20 min. This started up about 3 months ago, and I thought I might be allergic to dye so I changed all of my shower stuff to no dye no perfume, same with my laundry detergent and the problem still continues. I stopped using my loofa and started using a washcloth, that seemed to help a little bit, but it still happens every 2 or 3 weeks and the itching is aganizing.....someone please help!!

Re: Severe itching after showering

Well, unfortunately, I cannot really help, but when I saw this....along with some other recent posts, it's just amazing how many things I can relate to exactly...kinda makin me remember how many problems I have!! Anyways...I get the same thing, and it used to be a lot worse.....I would go crazy, practically wanting to scratch the skin right off my body after a shower...and I would seriously be going nuts around my place itching all over...laying down on the bed, itching some more....standing up, more itching....sitting down, same thing, until...like you said, about 20 minutes of that hell, it goes away.

So, if it makes you feel better, you're not the only one....I think my sister has the same thing too, and she went to see a dermatologist about it, and he basically just gave her some cream or lotion that helped, but I don't think it went away completely. I noticed that when I use regular bar soap, like Jerg ens, or something that has no scent, that it isn't as bad.....It seems when I use body wash soap, that's when it's the itchiest. I dunno what this is exactly, but I plan on seeing a dermatologist about it too, and I may not let him get off as easily as my sister let em. muahhhaaaa

Lets just hope it's not like ticks or fleas or scabies or something like that....but, for me, this has been going on for a long time...and I think if it were one of those things, I would have died or had seious effects by now to know if it was....oh well....I'd recommend going to a dermatologist as well, and looking into this issue. Best of luck to you...I feel your pain! I know it sucks really bad! But, lets hope we'll find out what it is!

Re: Severe itching after showering

I have a theory. I wonder if it would happen if you took an anti histamine like benadryl a wile before your shower. You don't need to be allergic to anything else for this to happen either. I think heat can cause histamine release in some peoples skin causing itching.

Good luck
John

I usually take lukewarm if not cold showers about 90% of the time, so I dont think its the heat. I did take benadryl once when it was happening and it helped a little but I cant live my life on that stuff, it makes me so drowsy.

Re: Severe itching after showering

Well, in my case, I know it's not from taking anything, like an anti-hystamine before showering, cuz' as far as I know, I am not allergic to anything, so I don't take anything like that. It just seems to happen....I take a shower, get out, and start getting itchy all over, but like I said, it's been getting better over the past year or so, and I'm not sure if it's the soap that I've been using or what, but it's definitely not as bad as it used to be. I don't know what the cause of this is, but I hope to find out soon. The best thing to do I suppose, is go to a dermatologist and get checked out.
