excema......OUCH???? - Skin Problems Message Board

I think i have excema on my finger's. My skin is dry, swollen, and broken open. How do you get this? Can it go away? It hurts.............

I have Exzema of my hands....you said your hands hurt? mine don't hurt, but really itch at times. Was wondering if you have that problem? I am not sure what all causes it, except I am alergic to Nickel. It also depends on what I eat...I try to stay away from spicey foods or pre packaged foods that have preservatives in them. If my hands get to itching real bad I use a cold washclothe or ice packs. COLD really helps!! I sleep on my stomach and will put ice packs under my pillow with towel over them. One for each hand...is the only way I can go to sleep. If your fingers don't itch but just break open...I am thinking possible some kind of fungas like my Daughter use to have. It effected her toes and was especially bad in the winter time when she would wear boots....thank goodness she did grow out of it. If possible you really need to see a Dermatoligist. Good luck! Lou

Thanxs.......Didnt really mean "hurt" but just itchy and irritated. Went to the doc yesterday, and got a steroid cream. She said it starts with very dry skin, and heat (as far as weather) can play a role. I think it can come back too. Also the cream she perscibed is heat sensitive, so you have to be careful in the sun?????? Hope this goes away soon. I actually dont have it on my hands.......it's on 3 finger's. It got so irritated at work, i had to wear a band aid................

It sounds like you may have DYSHIDROTIC ECZEMA. You would need to see a dermatologist to be treated. Also it is often confused with psoriasis, so be sure to get an accurate dx.

Thanks for your reply, has given me some insight too! I have noticed that mine seems worse this time of year...possibly due to the heat. Also before I got this, I was a cashier and handled lots of boxed items and was told that it can be very dry where there are alot of boxes around. My hands were always very dry and chapped, no amount of lotion helped. Right after I quit working which was in June...was when my hands broke out for the first time. I'm glad it is only contained to your fingers. It can still be an alergic reaction also like mine. Actually I have known for years I can not wear cheap jewelry (the nickel thing). I wore a cheap necklace to a wedding and the next morning, I had bumps all around my neck. I have also been told that using steroid creams can thin your skin. So keep on top of this ......let us know how you are geting along. Don't forget the COLD help, which makes sense that I don't forget the HEAT. Thanks, Lou
