Facial Dandruff??? - Skin Problems Message Board

I have a dandruff-like flaking in my facial hair, and on my skin. For some reason it's only on my face, scalp and under my chin. Hydrocortizone helps it temporarily, but it always comes back. Does this sound familiar to anyone, cause it's kinda freakin me out more & more.

Sounds like seborrohoeic dermatitis from your description. I'm not really sure what you should do for seborroheoic dermatitis on your face. You may want to go to the chemist and ask about it. But for your scalp, shampoo everyday with an anti dandruff shampoo (nizoral, head & shoulders etc).

I have seborrheic dermatitis on my face and I used cortizone cream on it for years with great sucess, until one day it just stopped working. This time of year is when it's at its worst and it's so embarassing because those little flakes of skin get in my hair around my hairline and I have to spend a lot of time picking them out (eeww). Very frustrating.

I recently found out that the active ingredient in Flonase is used to treat seborroheoic dermatitis, and since I use Flonase already for allergies I decided to try it on my face. Lo and behold it actually works! It's the only thing I've tried in the last 5 years that has worked, and believe me I've tried everything.

Before bedtime I just squirt some on my finger tips and rub it on the affected areas. I make sure I get some on my hairline too, because dandruff shampoo just doesn't get the job done.

Ketaconazole (sp) lotion works quite well. It's about 20 bucks by prescription. Give it a couple of weeks; Also works good on redness.
