Skin allergy to lotion?

If anyone could help me out with this, I'd really appreciate it. This last Tuesday, I started using a few new Avon body lotions. I put one certain kind on my tummy and butt, another kind on my thighs and yet another kind on my breasts. (These are special lotions intended to firm, tone, reduce cellulite, etc.) I applied all three of these lotions twice a day. Last night after I applied, I noticed that my stomach and sides were covered in little hard red bumps. They almost look like shaving irritation bumps. They didn't/don't itch or hurt at all. The only thing I could think of was that I had an allergic reaction to the lotion I had used on my tummy (even though I didn't have those same bumps on my butt, where I had also applied it). So today I didn't apply that lotion, and instead just applied my regular body lotion. In retrospect, that was probably stupid... I should have waited until the bumps were completely gone to use *any*thing. Anyway, I checked myself before I went to work several hours later and I didn't have the bumps. Then after work tonight, I was changing clothes and noticed that the bumps were back.

Now I'm a little unsure as to why the bumps would be back, since I didn't even apply the lotion. I also noticed that I now have those same bumps all over my back (where I never apply any lotion at all) and on the undersides on my arms (again, didn't apply lotion there). Why would it have spread like that if it was an allergic reaction to a lotion I'd used?

I should also mention that I had an extremely stressful night at work last night, which coincidentally was the same night I first noticed the bumps. And, although work tonight wasn't stressful, I was pretty stressed and nervous *before* I went in because I was afraid it'd be like the night before. Again, same night I noticed the bumps were back.

So I'm wondering if this sounds like an allergy to the lotion or could it be a result of the stress? I think it's weird that it would spread like this if I was having an allergic reaction to a lotion that I applied to one little area of my body. Also, I didn't get the bumps on my butt where I had also applied that lotion. On the other hand, it's awfully coincidental that this started after I started using the new lotion... The box to this lotion does say it's hypo-allergenic.

Any input anyone?

Re: Skin allergy to lotion?

Let me clue you in on what hypoallergenic means...whatever the manufacturer wants it to mean. There are so many things that a person can have a reaction to, that it would be impossible to make anything at all.

Different parts of your body react differently to the lotions. I would discontinue the lotion before it gets anyworse. I could tell you my experience, but let's just say that I wouldn't wish the last 2 years on anyone.

Re: Skin allergy to lotion?

Yeah that's true.... there's no way they could make a product that *no one* would be allergic to... everyone's allergic to different things. I've just never had a problem like this before. Then again, these are different lotions and contain different ingredients than anything I've ever used before, too.

Was your problem due to a skin allergy to something?

Re: Skin allergy to lotion?

I can't use soaps or lotions that contain fragrance.

I use Aveeno and Cetaphil now. No skin problems at all.
Both are fragrance-free products.
