Tinea Versicolor - Treatment - Skin Problems Message Board

Can anyone that has experienced Tinea Versicolor, or knows about it, recommend a treatment for it?

I've been to the dermatologist, and he gave me the worst smelling [ and most ineffective ] treatment possible. It's still on my body, and shows no signs of slowing.

I have it too, it is very hard to get rid of.

Hi,

I have had a couple of bouts with TV. The first time I had it, my doctor gave me a prescription for some type of anitbiotic, and it cleared it up. I got it again, and that same antibiotic that worked the first time didn't work the second time. I was also told to use Selsun Blue on it (it was on my back), and that didn't work either. Finally, I took some probiotics for about 2 months, and that cleared it right up, and it hasn't come back since. That was about 1 year ago. Oh, my doctor gave me a prescription for Lamisil (the oral medication), but my insurance wouldn't cover it, and it was EXTREMELY expensive. You could try the otc Lamisil cream to use topically.
