psoriatic arthritis - Skin Problems Message Board

Hi,

Hoping someone has some info on this really.My rheumie has said that he believes that I have psoriatic arthritis(I already have osteo-diagnosed and receiving treatment for over 17 years).I have also tested pos for the anf a few times and he is observing for lupus. I have read that you can have this form of arthritis and develop the psoriasis later.I don't even know what I am looking for.The only part of me with a 'skin problem' is my scalp.If I scratch my scalp,a lot of the time I will either have whitish,flaky bits under my nails or it is slighly more wet,like a 'scum'.I asked my hairdresser(because I thought it could be dandruff or my shampoo)but they said no.I do change shampoos every couple of months but nothing changes.I did not tell my rheumie about my scalp as I wasn't expecting him to drop this into my lap and he caught me off guard!Does this sound like psoriasis?

yeah, that sounds like psoriasis to me (i have the same "symptoms" on my head too)....as far as shampoos go, i use neutrogena theraputic T-gel "stubborn itch control" shampoo maybe once a week or so and it helps me a lot...it makes my scalp a lot less itchy than if i don't use it...

Hi.I have tried the neutrogena shampoo that is supposed to clean away all build up(can't remember the name).My scalp can sometimes be very pink but not always.I have noticed that I have little cuts on my head occassionally,(usually only find them when I scratch!)My hairline isn't affected though.Thanks for the advice.Take care,

neutrogena makes several different lines of shampoos....this one is specifically for people who have scalp problems...

Yeah I guessed it wasn't the one that I tried.It's just that I took the hairdressers advice because no-one(including me)ever thought of psoriasis.Now that I know I can change tack.Does it affect the skin on peoples hands?It's just that unless I moisturise several times a day the skin becomes very red and can split(very dry also).Thanks for the advice,take care,
