Rash? - Skin Problems Message Board

Hi,

My roommate has had a reddish 'rash' on his neck, upper shoulders and upper chest area for several months now. It's not anywhere else on his body. There are also small red bumps.

It burns after he takes a shower, and at times it itches. Also, whenever he's in any type of heat, it burns and/or turns redder (hot shower, outside, etc.)

We're not sure if it "might" be an allergy, or exposure to some type of food or work surroundings, or some other explanation.

He also had some dental work done, and thought it "might" be the infection from his tooth, or the novacaine that was used (several months ago).

He noticed that is got better when he was off work for over a week, and the last 2 days, it's gotten worse.

Any insight would be helpful.

He may be allergic to something in his office. The fabric on his chair, something in the heating/cooling system, were the carpets recently cleaned?

Or, does he have to wear a suit or uniform to work? If so, does he get his work clothes dry cleaned or does the company he works for clean them? It could be chemicals used in his environment or what he wears. If he does his own laundry, perhaps have him change detergents. And, then, wash everything (all clothes, sheets, towels, blankets...everything) with the new detergent.
