Is skin picking considered self-injury or OCD?

Ever since I was a kid, I picked at scabs, which led to messing with pimples, and cystic acne, once in awhile. When I do it, I don't think of it as punishing myself, but merely just to get the thing off of my face or neck. I don't get any pleasure from it. Maybe it is a OCD thing, but it certainly doesn't get in the way of my life. Just a yucky scar that lasts longer than normal. I already take meds for depression/anxiety- maybe a change of meds would help?

No, I don't think it's self-injury... Perhaps it's a case of OCD, but if you aren't purposely trying to harm yourself for the gratification I doubt anyone would call it self-injury/mutilation.

A change of meds might be in order if you feel you can't stop thinking about picking at things.
