I've gone to 2 Dermatologists and a GP and none can prescribe something to cure my peeling skin on my finger. On the tip of my right thumb the skin is thin and peels off (looks disgusting), it is very raw and red and feels the way skin does when you get a layer of glue on it (know what I mean? thin and stiff?). Also, the skin stays dented in when you press it. It hurts and is embarassing. The Dr's have just guessed and prescribed stuff and nothing has worked. They just say "fingertip ezema" as an easy diagnosis and that's not it. My understanding is that ezema itches and it doesn't itch. Does anyone know what this is and what will help?

I have had peeling skin on my fingers several times and I have found it was because of an allergy to a soap I was using. I have eczema but it does not typicallyt appear on my hands. I have food allergies which show up in a variety of forms that some dermatologists do not address. One allergy was a rash on my legs which I discovered was due to chocolate. All I needed to do was stop eating choc. and it cleared up. None of the dermatological creams I used for this rash helped.
The finger peeling was simply due to the wrong soap for me.
It is not always easy to discover the cause of the problem, but with time hopeful you will.

It actually sort of sounds like a callous. I used to get it on the tip of my left index finger from writing. Do you write with that hand? Mine only peeled when I would pick at it though. But, I do have callouses on my feet that crack and peel now and then. As for my index finger, mine would stay dented in for moment when pressed. Have you tried moisturizing? You might try using vasaline. I would use a lightly frangranced or fragrance free lotion first then put a dab of vasaline on it to lock in the moisture and, though it sounds funny, either where a sock over that hand or a looser fitting glove. Something that won't rub off the vasaline too quickly and will let your skin breath just enough yet still lock in the moisture. See if that works. Give it some time. Rome wasn't built in a day and skin problems don't just get resolved in a day either.
