soft skin

first of all, I'm a guy, i'm 20, i don't use lotion or anything and i think my skin is too soft. Actually, it just stared happening recently, like 2 weeks ago. My regular routine is pretty much the same, except i got a new job which requires me to sweat almost everyday (my job requires heavy lifting) but i shower afterwards, don't know if it's connected or anything. Is this a "puberty" thing, something to do with hormones or anything? My eating habits are the same, being a college student, most of us don't have the $$$ to eat a lot of healthy food. So I don't think food is the culprit. I HAVE been drinking more water due to my job, but i've been drinking water pretty much my whole life (i'm a 2 sport athlete back in high school).

Even my little brother noticed my soft skin, he tried to slap my leg to wake me up (damn little brothers). And told me, "do you use lotion or something, your skin is soft".

Help, anyone? what's going on here? i can't really figure it out either.

Re: soft skin

You are killing me! I know it is a pride thing for guys but, coming from a girl, soft skin on a guy is not necessarily a bad thing. Perhaps there are women who think a man should be rough, callused and actually almost painful to us to touch. I am not one of them. I don't want to have abrasions from my guy! But, that is just me!

So, I guess to appeal to your need to be rough, perhaps try a different soap. Use something that does't gloat about its softening ingredients. Stay away from Dove brand products. Stay away from anything that says it is enriched with any vitamins, aloe, extracts...anything "Nourishing". I can't think of a brand that doesn't have softening ingredients so, I can't suggest anything. I would suggest men's soaps but, I kind of think they are specifically made to soften a man up some. I am at a big loss for you. Usually someone on these boards is looking for a way to help their dry skin and smooth themselves out! You are truly unique! You are still pretty young as far as your skin goes. The older you get, the rougher your skin will get. Then, you might wish you still had the softer skin!

I am sorry I couldn't be more helpful! Perhaps try to get your mind away from what your guy friends think about your skin and consider what the ladies think of it!

Re: soft skin

As long as it's still has the same toughness, elasticity, and it heals at the same rate as usual then I don't think there's a problem.

Re: soft skin

LoL... this is a weird thread.

Soft skin is a sign of health.

If you really want rough, dry, flaky, oily, problematic skin, I suggest you do a complete 180 degree change of what you are doing now.

1) Stop drinking water (water hydrates the skin, keeping it soft and moist)
2) Stop exercising (exercise tones and firms the skin, many people claim that exercising gives them good skin)
3) Use harsh soaps and possibly chlorine to dry out the skin. Use rubbing alcohol on your face as well.

Follow these three steps and in no time, your skin will be rough and hard.
