bitten by cat flea - Skin Problems Message Board

hi guys, my great grandmother passed away recently and i went back to her old farm house to get some of her stuff. she was stranded in the hospital and the house was left unoccupied for 2 months. i understand that she has a few pet cats and the cats strayed around the house ever since she wasn't staying there and they even gave birth inside the house! so basically the whole house is infested with real hungry cat fleas and i got bitten by them as i stepped into the house, wearing only bermuda pants and sport sandals.

i've taken precautionary measure like soaking my clothes in antiseptic solutions to prevent the fleas from spreading. the only problem right now is my legs. there's tiny red bumps all over the place and i've cleaning it with antiseptic solutions and applying bug bite cream onto it and it doesn't seem to work. there's also a slight itch and i'm trying very hard not to scratch them. is there any products out there that's more effective or should i go see a doctor?

Sorry, I don't have any solutions, but if you find one, let me know! My sister in law has a neighbor who has soooooooo many cats, inside and out, that they can't keep track! My sister in law has a horrible flea problem during the summer and she has tried everything. They literally infest her dogs, yard, and home. Their legs are horrible at times. I know she does try benedryl, and cortizone creams. For my itches, I like the gold bond poweder.

You could try rubbing alcohol.. I know it works for me when I have mosquito bites.

I use benadryl 25 mg, the over the counter brand and Calamine lotion. I also sometimes use the Benadryl cream or a hydrcortisone cream. You can also take a vitamin B complex 50 mg twice per day to keep the fleas from biting you, they tend to dislike the odor or taste of your blood. If you have an empty room that an animal use to be, in they will be so hungry they will bite the 1st blood creature to enter that room, in that case you can buy some flea powder, sprinkle it all over the floors and then vacuum it up a day or so later. Regular vacuuming keeps them at bay. Then there is always the good old flea bomb. If worst comes to worst, you can always wear flea collars on your ankles and wrists! Lol! Just kidding!
