The Peeling Lip Cycle Returned...

Basically my lips grow back cracked, turn white and peel off every few days.

My cause differs from most though however as most of the people reporting on that thread had bitten their lips for many years. I hadn't.

I started taking a number of supplements in my diet that were supposed to help with collagen growth due to me having laser surgery on some minor acne scarring and I believe the skin on my lips changed due to this and grew back too quickly as if my immune system went into overdrive. It's also possible it may have given me a yeast infection which i'm on Daktacort hyrdocortisone 1% for at the moment.

This seems to help hide the problem but I'm due to discontinue and when I did this last week the problem just returned.

Anyone have any ideas on what can be done.

Something I found on this condition possibly being caused by a yeast overdose.

May help a few people who haven't tried it yet.

i have some symptoms similar to what you are talking about. Does this only happen on the top half of your bottom lip?

Re: The Peeling Lip Cycle Returned...

Other way round fella! Bottom half of top lip. I differ from most because most lip biters bite their bottom lip.

It's known as exfoliative cheilitis. Type that into ****** and you'll find loads of info on it. I'm looking into using a different type of cream at the moment called protopic which has helped some people on-line.

Some people on here have found some good ways to help deal with it though. Search for ex-pickers peeling lips in this board.

I'm confident that somehow I'll get this cured.

Good luck.

Re: The Peeling Lip Cycle Returned...

Well I've been on anti fungal tablets which haven't done anything of note apart from dry out skin elsewhere on my body so I guess it's back to the doctor!

This is a right pain in the arse. The doctor can't prescribe me protopic because it's dangerous on mucous membranes Ie the inside of the mouth so I'm gonna have to try something else.

This is doing my head in.
