Re: dark birth marks with hair growth in adolesence
A doctor needs to look at it. I have a dark brown birthmark on my left shoulder about the size of a nickel, and it has long straight blond hairs growing out of it. It's raised and higher and thicker looking than the other skin (I'm a light skinned blond). Been an embarrassment to me all my life, so I don't wear sleeveless shirts or tank-tops because of people's stares. When a doctor first sees it, they always look startled. They always check it, but it never changes size, shape, or color, so there is no problem with it. Doctors have always told me to watch for and report any changes. Hopefully your son can see his birthmark in the mirror so he can keep a watch out for changes. If not, someone needs to check it for him every 6-12 months. It may sound stupid, but a digital picture (with a measuring tape beside the mark) might be helpful to have.
