| Re: Allergic reaction to Benzoyl peroxide
I had a terrible problem with contact dermatitis all around my eyes (eye lids, under eyes, etc.). I got my skin problem from using Professional WhiteStrips (hydrogen peroxide) on my teeth and touching the strips with my fingers tips and [stupidly] rubbing my eyes without first washing my hands, which I have a bad habit of doing.
The skin all around my eyes it was red, itchy and flaky. It also burned. It looked terrible. This went on for weeks. I tried cleansing my skin around my eyes a few times each day and put moisturizing lotion on, but it didn't really help and my skin problem wouldn't go away. After about 5 weeks I started using Cortisone 10 (1% cortisone) cream I bought OTC at a drug store and almost immediately I could see the skin around eyes healing. I only had to use the cortisone cream for about 3-4 days. (Note that cortisone cream should not be used for more than a week or two because it thins the skin and bring capillaries to the skin's surface. Also, if used near the eyes for a prolonged period of time it can cause cataracts...so be careful.)
