Big toe callus

I've had these calluses on the outside of my big toes for decades. I trim them with a single edge razor blade. I've cut right into the toe several times and it healed. The last time I cut into it, (2 months ago)it was a good size cut.
That callus has never healed and is very painful. It's red and sore around the callus now. I'm wondering if it could be infected and if it is, how serious can this be?

Re: Big toe callus

Thanks for answering Kimi. I do use the Dr. S callus pads regularly. You're right: they do help with walking. I'd be hopping on one foot without them. My main problem is that it's very painful consistantly. It even keeps me from getting to sleep. Guess I'd better get off my duff and see the doctor. Again, Thanks
