Skin around eyes suddenly dry, itching flaking

I have very oily skin and no wrinkles, until now. Cold water helps but then they were so dry and wrinkly I put Ponds and oh boy burned the hell out of me! It looked like I had a sunburn from eyebrow to underneath and beyond.

Now using petroleum based Polysporin which cools the burning and itch. But still something is wrong... so weird! Been using the same cremes for eyes with good luck for years (Clinique) WHAT COULD THIS BE? It's not normal for me to be 'dry' anyplace.

PLEASE HELP...

Re: Skin around eyes suddenly dry, itching flaking

I also had extremely dry skin under my eyes, but especially more so under one eye. It was all puffy and wrinkled like an 80 year old and scaly. It was a little tender where the puffiness was. The corner of my eyes were very itchy and the more I rubbed my eyes, the worse the wrinkles and puffiness got. I did not go to the doctors but instead just took some Reactine non-drowsy antihistamine to stop the itching and also applied cold compresses cause sometimes the Reactine was not enough. I used Jamieson Vitamin Expertise ProVitamina e. It says it's 100% pure Vitamin E oil 28,000 IU/UI sold in drugstore for stressed skin, scars, wrinkles and stretch marks. Was around $14.00 in Canada. I put that on under my eyes and then some St Ives Collagen Elastin on top of that. (I don't know if safe to put this stuff so close to eye but I did not have any problem; however, I was concerned about using Hydrocortisone so did not use that). I put these 2 products on several times per day and at night before went to bed. It worked quickly but then after a couple of days the problem returned. It was especially worse upon awakening in the morning. I don't know still what caused it except I think an allergy to my makeup. So I stopped wearing any makeup and finally after about a week and a half, the problem was gone and hopefully will not return. I think the Jamieson oil has even marginally improved my dark circles under my eyes as well, and maybe reduced the fine lines. But maybe I just want to believe that !

Re: Skin around eyes suddenly dry, itching flaking

This is exactly what happened to me. The only thing I could think of is that I was allergic to something (autumn tree junk? ladybug poop?) or, that my makeup had clogged up my skin. I also had a lot of stress which caused nerve jumping in my face for 3 weeks before that...so was worried it was neurological.

After burning my face with the normal stuff like Ponds, causing it to be wrinkled and worse, I had to use Polysporin to quell the redness and irritation and ward off infection, but once that was gone, I discovered that normal Vaseline put on at night keeps the skin elastic and firm, and keeps puffiness at bay, even better than the expensive Clinique stuff I used to use!

So now, thank God I am back to normal.. Almost age 61 and NOT ONE WRINKLE, not even crow's feet. So you will get your eyes back if you can fix the problem.
