Impetigo and Staph

I was trying to find out if impetigo can turn into a full blown staph infection?? I got a little spot on my face almost a week ago that I thought may be a ringworm so I started using anti-fungal creams and the thing got bigger and uglier! So I did some research and figured out that it is in fact Impetigo. So I started using anti-bacterial cream on it and in the past day it has gotten very painful and has turned a dark red color. I know that Impetigo is most commonly caused by the staph virus but I didn't know how to tell if it was actually turning into a staph infection. Also I was curious as to how long it would take to turn into staph infection if it can since I've only had it for about a week and only had the little blistery sores for about 3 days now. I can't get a doctors appt. for another week so if need be I'll go to the ER but any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
