I may have been exposed to someone who has a bad case of ringworm. I went to a store this morning to buy something and I noticed the male cashier talking to another employee about this rash he has. He had said it was getting better and than spread to his stomach. He has it all over his arms and stomach. Anyway, he rang up my purchase and handed me the receipt which I took from his hand and my item which he touched. I didn't touch his hands only the item and my purchase. I immediately thought this may be ringworm that he has, so as I walked out I trashed the receipt and threw my item in the car. I only touched both for about 20 seconds, if that. I have seen pictures of ringworm before and it is what it sorta looked liked. Now, I know other skin conditions like exzema(sp?) can look similar to ringworm. As soon as I got in my car I dropped the items, as I said before, and used some Germ-X hand sanitizer all over my hands and arms. So, if this guy does have ringworm(and I didn't touch his hands at all) could I get it? I have never had it before. I just need to know and what to look for. Thanks for your help.
I'm not 100% sure in your case, but I remember it being highly contagious. I remember when I was younger, I came in contact with an item, touched my cheek and then I pretty much got ringworm on my cheek. But I think it starts a bit slow- first a bit dry and scaley, then a light red ring, and in 2 days or so, it was completely a purtruding ring!
It wouldn't hurt to apply some antifungal cream until you are sure tho.
You can get it, if that's what he had, but I wouldn't worry overly much about it. Ringworm is easy to treat. I got one spot of it years ago from coming in contact with my boyfriend's child, who had it. It was a matter of applying a cream to it. I only had the one area and it went away quickly.
Don't worry so much- we come in contact with bacteria, viruses and microbes every day that are probably way worse than whatever it is that cashier had. If his co-worker didn't have it, you're probably in the clear. People that work with the guy would be more exposed than a customer.
