Facial hair

Hi,

I have been on Dilantin a drug for controlling seizures for 5 years. One if the side effects is hirsutism and I am seeing excessive facial hair growing. I want to know how to solve this problem as its very embarrasing. Are their any prescription creams, any techniques etc.

I would appreciate any advice.
Thankx.

Re: Facial hair

Is the hair dark or light? If the hair is dark you can have laser hair removal done. If it is light there is electrolosis (however u spell it). I had laser hair removal done and had good results with it so far. There is also a new cream out called vaniqua that is used to control the hair growth. It will not get rid of the hair you already have but will control more coming in. If you have any more questions please let me know and I will try to answer them. Good Luck

Re: Facial hair

HI rudd,

Thankx for the reply. The hair is dark. Does laser removal cause any side effects, or is it permanent? Beacuse I may have to continue taking this drug and it will continue to stimulate hair growth. Also does leave any scars on the face and how expensive is it?
Sorrt for asking so many questions.
Thankx.

Re: Facial hair

Yes there some side effects with the laser, it can burn you. But with an experienced tech this should not be a problem. They give you this warning but it all depends too on what laser you use. Most of them spray a coolant which makes it nearly impossible for the laser to burn. They say permanent hair reduction, not removal. Usually you have to go back once a year just for a touch up. I have had 2 treatments to far and have see great results with it. I had my upper lip done for $150 and prices do vary from area to area. You should check out this great site that I visit, it really helped me answer all my questions I had about laser and helped eased all the fears I had when I was getitng ready to have it done. Its called www.consumerbeware.com You should really check it out. The moderators on the board actually do laser hair removal, I believe one is located in Florida, Georgia, New York and Texas maybe. But anyway they are not on there to sell their services, just to give the consumers honest answers to their questions. They are great people. You will see alot of other people posting about their experiences and what they do to remove the hair. There are alot of people on the board who have had laser hair removal done and some who can't afford it right now and using other methods of hair removal, and maybe that would help ya out. You will see how many women out there really struggle with the problem of unwanted hair. I didn't realize how many people deal with this everyday until I discovered this board. Let me know what you decide to do, and good luck!!
