plantar warts/mosaic warts

My son received aggressive liquid nitrogen
treatment for a large plantar wart and and
couple of smaller plantar warts on the same
foot. Aggressive meaning: every two week,
3 applications of that really cold liquid
nitrogen. He's gone 3 times. Lo and behold
his other foot now has about 100 pin dot
warts on it. So now, the next treatment will
be laser. In the meantime he's on mega doses
of Tagamet (800mg) 3 times a day, and an
ointment for genital warts that he's using on
his foot. The doctor thinks it may be stress
related...Anyone have any ideas why my son
is getting attacked by these warts? Also,
he was told to be very clean after touching
his feet because it could spread to his genitals and other areas of his young body. I feel so bad for him...

Re: plantar warts/mosaic warts

I am sorry to hear about the problem your son is having. How old is he? Is a podiatrist treating the warts and if so, what does the podiatrist say? I agree that he should be very careful not to touch other parts of his body - especially since he is having that much problem with the warts on his feet. Warts are caused by a virus as you probably know and some people are more susceptible than others. If it were my child I would probably run that by his pediatrician or whatever Dr. he sees for general health care just because I would be wondering if he had a problem with his immune system. Mabey I would be overeacting but my son's Dr. would just have to deal with that. At least that would put my mind at ease if the MD didn't perceive this to be a problem. Does you son get sick a lot with other illnesses? Good luck. I hope you get the wart problem under control.

P.S. I just reread your post and my reply and you did say the Dr. thought mabey stress. Good luck.
[This message has been edited by Brookej (edited 06-28-2001).]

Re: plantar warts/mosaic warts

Hi. A thyroid specialist told my sister that recurring warts are one of the symptoms of an overactive thyroid (graves disease). You can get a good list of symptoms at the american medical assoc. website or the thyroid assoc. website. If your son has even some of the symptoms of high thyroid, copy the list and take it to his doctor. Make copies of both high and low thyroid symptoms for his blood relatives, as this runs in families. Ask his doctor for a thyroid test (TSH) and a thyroid anti-body test. If your doctor refuses, even though your son has some of the symptoms, get a second opinion. I hope this helps you. Strawberry
