Yellow Skin On My Face

Hi there.

A few occasions in the past six months people have noticed that I have quite bright yellow skin on my face - between my eyes mainly but some on my forehead too. I can wipe it and it rubs off (I'm assuming this is dead skin coming away but it is very yellow). Then in between times I don't notice it. I'm generally quite flushed and red in the face so this is quite a contrast for me. I don't smoke but I do drink alcohol a couple of times a week but not to any excess - maybe 3 glasses at the most.

I do suffer with diabetes which I inject insulin for but I don't think there is any connection to that. I have not noticed any other parts of my body to be discoloured.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks.

Re: Yellow Skin On My Face

Hi yes, if that much alcohol is used there is likely a difficulty with the liver which now can't process the bilirubin properly so it raises and causes a yellow color. I suggest stopping drinking with the help of a professional since if a person drinks more than every 73 hours it is likely that alcoholism is a factor. If a person tries to stop on there own and they have been drinking too much seizures and hallucinations with delirium tremens can occur. The alcohol is very bad for the liver.

Re: Yellow Skin On My Face

Hi SJB.

You really think this is alcohol related? I didn't think I was anywhere near the recommended limit for women (14 units per week in this country) especially as I don't drink religiously every week.

OK so is the a specific blood test I need to ask my doctor for?

Thank you.

Re: Yellow Skin On My Face

Hi I would ask for a bilirubin test and liver function tests as well as any other routine tests that could be done and a full physical.
