| burn scar suddenly itchy and inflamed... possible skin cancer?
Several years ago, my dad burned his wrist on the muffler of his car. It healed fine and he did not seek medical treatment. It left a scar that was dark in pigment about the size of a nickel. It has been healed and the scar has been there for about 3-4 years. Just in the last few weeks, the scar has become red and itchy and dry looking. He has been putting cortisone cream on it which temporarily relieves the itching but does not heal it at all. When I google melanoma, similar symptoms and photos come up. Is it possible this has turned into melanoma or is this a typical reaction to a burn scar? He does wear a watch that rubs up against it (worn the same watch for 10+ years) and he receives monthly B12 shots but is not on any medications otherwise. Thanks for any input!!!
