Scalp Infection from the Salon?
Good morning everyone.
Close to two years ago I received a hair cut. The Stylist cut the skin on the tops of both ears next to the hair line and (drew blood) with her scissors. Two weeks later both sides of my head developed a sever itch. By the third week the itch had climbed to the top of my head and I went to our family practitioner. I explained about the hair cut mishaps and he claimed it was a coincidence. He gave me a shampoo and some hydrocortisone.
No change and the itch was getting worse and starting to cover the back of my head. By the fifth week I had a referral to go see a dermatologist. As she is walking into the exam room she blurts out "It's called seborrheic dermatitis." Looks at some moles on my chest and back, takes one look at one spot on my head and prescribes some topical steroids.
The steroid solution controls the itch and stops the flakes, but only if it is used EVERY day. If I miss a day the itching and flaking returns before the end of the next day. Then takes two or three days to get back under control.
I don't believe in coincidences and it drives me nuts that one DR. says it's just a coincidence (it's not a coincidence if he pokes himself with a used needle and gets sick) and the other diagnosis me before she's even entered the room.
I've been utilizing Folk remedies for the last couple of months, but it only gets better for the 1st few treatments and then slides back. Coal tar, tea tree and selsun have little to zero effect.
Any idea if it could be a fungal or bacterial infection? Are there specific tests that can be done?
