Do Facials Help Clear Up YOUR Skin? Advice, Please!!
So, I went to get my legs waxed the other day, and the esthetician told me that if I start coming in for monthly facials, she can clear up my acne before May of 2003, when I am getting married. I REALLY want to be clear for my wedding, but facials are REALLY expensive!!
I just want to know if anyone else has had success with them??
Money is tight, and I can't afford to be wrong! Is she just saying this so that I will pay for facials?? What should I do??
By the way, I have moderate acne composed of scattered whiteheads and small blackheads. I have combination skin, oily in the T-zone, and super dry everywhere else.
If you can, please offer me some advice!! THANKS!!
There are several schools of thought on this. Its possible the esthetitian is very good and can do what she says, but facials are expensive and so are the products she will recommend as follow up. I would be especially leery if she is also the one that sold you the tend skin for $28. For less than the price for 1 facial you can visit a dermatologist or plastic surgeon's office who specializes in skin care. Usually they have RN's who are skin care specialists or even the dr. him/herself will examine you. Ask around and find out who's good. This consultation is worth the $$. I had one a few months ago and it cost $65 w/ the RN in a plastic surgeon's office. She was great, made excellent recommendations to get my skin back into shape and we are getting there. For my problems I chose microdermabrasion, 5 treatments spaced 2-3 weeks apart and then a cleanser, moisturizer and vitamin c cream as follow up at home so far. She may add/change this as we go along. The peels were about $600 total which includes all the office visits. Of course the products are extra. If you have acne that you want to clear up and then maintain healthy skin, I cant recommend enough that you see a qualified professional and use the products they recommend. I have seen such are remarkable difference in my skin its amazing. I'm 45 and cant believe I waited this long to take care of my skin. All that drug store/dept. store crap that I used for so many years was just wasting $$. If you start when you are younger you will look great as you age! So, get going and will look wonderful on your wedding day!
I am an esthetician, and yes, I do think facials help clear up skin. But facials alone will not help, if you don't have a good skin care regimen to take home with you the other 29 days of the month. It depends what kind of acne you have too. Are there a lot of blackheads and whiteheads that require extractions? This should only be done by a professional to prevent scaring. Plus, does she use high frequency? This is a tube that holds "ozone" gas that kills bacteria under the skin. Ofcourse, there is an underlying problem thats causing this acne, that facials alone won't help. It is her job to get to the root of the problem, not just cleanse your skin...you can do that at home. Buy a sulfer, mud, or clay masque, and use it once a week, to deep cleanse pores....use an astringent (toner) nightly that contains salycilic acid (exfolient)....this will slough off dead skin cells and keep them from clogging your pores. Use a good moisturizer without mineral oil, or heavy products that clog. Or...I have seen proactive help a lot of people, have you tried that? Be wary of dermatologists who want to prescribe meds...always remember that medication causes imbalances in the body...and never resolves the problem. Medication that eliminates sebum (oil) from your skin to clear it up, will result in dry red irritated skin that cannot be exposed to sun. Your skin needs that lubricating and protective oil!
I recommend to do a mask, cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize daily....take zinc every single day, along with a multivitamin. Eat healthy, and stay away from foods that contain sugars and a lot of unhealthy fats. Exercise will provide circulation and detoxification.....and if you experience hormonal acne (like thats deep and under the surface of the skin...birth control pills can balance, and chaste berry (herbal supplement) can help balance hormone levels too.
If you do these things, I promise you will have a healthy glow on this very important day!
Good luck and enjoy this special time....he is after all, marrying YOU....skin and all!

Zinc plays a major part in the renewal of cells, and your immune system. It helps with wound healing, and acne. Its important to follow the directions on the package, because unlike other vitamins and minerals...zinc CAN be toxic, if overdosing. You can get extra zinc by eating foods that are rich in this mineral...but taking a supplement would really help you, I believe.
