Question Worry over mole I've had forever

I've had this mole thing on my chest and back ever since I was born. The one on my back obviously doesn't bother me as much as the other one. Both are about the size of a pencil eraser, maybe a little bit smaller. They are risen, rounded and hyper-sensitive. It feels like its filled with fluid because it's not rock hard. all I have to do is scrape it a little with my nail and it hurts like nothing else. I'm 17, I've set up an appointment in march to have these things looked at. The one on my chest has been very sore latley. Could they turn into cancer in later years? I hope to get them removed, how is that done? I've been through a lot of medical things so I'm not worried about the pain, any info would be great

Don't worry, 17 year olds don't get skin cancer from moles you've had for life.

I had a few removed over the summer. They can do it a couple different ways. They can burn them or cut them. I opted for cutting them off. It was very easy and painless. They give you a shot to numb it (not right in the mole, but near it) then just cut it off and cauterize it to seal the blood vessels. You can't even feel it and the shot is not painful. Then they slap a bandaid on them and it's over.

Wait before you go off and cutting on yourself.
I had three moles that i got cut off. sure it may be painless but they leave horrid skars that are upraised from your skin called keiloids. I had mine removed for appearance some people said they looked better than the skars. thats just my opinion. As for being cancerous It could be in the far future. i wouldnt worry about it now. Everyone has an average of 40 moles on their body wether they are clear, white, small, or being produced. Whatever you decide to do I hope you are pleased with your results

I have zillions of what my mom used to call "beauty marks" that are just brown spots on my skin. It's just this one is raised and it hurts to touch it, it's definatly not for appearence. It's not like the other, regular ones.

I agree with claratins, before you go and have them removed surgically (unless there is a medical reason for it) explore all your options. My son also had moles removed from neck and face, which left horrid scar tissue.

Go to a dermatologist and have the moles checked that bother you. If it is different than the other ones they may biopsy it. I have had some removed that have left scares but others didn't leave a scar...I don't
know what the difference is.

I have a mole, or birthmark as I prefer to call it, similiar to what you have described. It's on my upper lip and has been there forever and it grew with me. It's about the size of a pencil eraser, very slighly raised, dark brown and has black course hair growing in it which I trim each day with a small scissors. Mine also feels a bit smushy, not hard.

My mom talked to a doctor when I was small about having it removed but he said the scar would look worse than the mole. I used to get teased about it in school but men find it sexy and it is so much a part of my face that I couldn't imagine myself without it. I have asked a dermotologist about it being dangerous and he has assured me that it's nothing to worry about. Unless it really bothers you to have clothes rub against it I don't think I'd get it removed. I guess I'm actually lucky cause since mine is on my face nothing ever touches it.
