my toddler son's rash (HIVE?) - Skin Problems Message Board

My 22 months old son had nasty rash all over his body during his cold recently. After 4 days of nightmare including a visit to the emergency room, it cleared up. He was prescribed for atarax which is anti-histamine. Since then this rash keeps coming back but severely, here and there on his body, often around his eyes. They look like hives, red & bumpy. It's been almost a month but it's still happening. Has anyone ever have any experience like this with your kids?

Hi, My 5 yr old daughter gets the same thing and has been prescribed everything from allergy medicatio (zyrtec), steroids, atarax, and many others. We have been to tons of doctors (family doctors and dermatologists) and had alot of tests done. She has been getting this since she was 1 1/2. She will go for a long while and be fine, then get a cold or stomach virus and the hives will start. THey will come and go for about two months before they settle down again. Sometimes she gets them for no reason at all. We have been told this is normal and there is nothing we can do about it. I did a lot of research and found that there are some people who are just prone to hives and there is no cause. My daughter isn't allergic to anything. Its just something we have to deal with. The Atarax is by far the best thing to use during a break out and other than that we make sure we use Aveeno to bath her all the time (not just during a break out) and put lotion on her everynight. This has really helped. Its a real pain I know but unfortunately you may never know what causes them.

You may need to have her tested for allergies, My son use to break out with hives , found out that he was allergic to eggs, rice, citris fruits(oranges, grapefruits etc)
