Just wondering if anyone whose been for a sleep apnea test knows how many times in an hour they woke up? My fiance recently went for one, and they told him he woke up like 136 times in an hour, and that he holds the record at that hospital. It just has me slightly disturbed and worried.

You mean as an average or just in one hour? The severity of sleep apnea is usually determined by the apnea/hypopnea index or respiratory disturbance index, also known as AHI or RDI. When the sleep study is finished, they determine the total sleep time in minutes and the total number of events to get the AHI.

My AHI is 79 and is considered severe. An AHI of 136 is really bad.

By definition, an apnea has to be atleast 10 seconds long. If he had 136 apneas in one hour, that means he spent atleast 22 minutes out of that hour NOT BREATHING. If that's his AHI, he was like that all night.

If a person has 5 sleep apnea events in one hour (for six hours) - they can be diagnosed with Sleep Apnea.

Your Husband had 136 sleep apnea events in one hour. His case is serious, I hope he is faithful with his treatment and I am glad the both of you found a sleep center to take care of his needs.
