UNSUR OF THE CORRECT WAY TO GET THE MOST BENEFIT OUT OFmelatonin??

Hi. I read somewhere on this board that Melatonin works best if you take it about 2 times a week, this way your body does not build up a tolerance to it. A pharmacist told me that you should take Melatonin every night, this way it builds up in your system and helps more. I tried taking it every night for a few wekks, still had insomnia. I am wondering if anyone has had good results just taking it a few times a week. Another pharmacist told me that Melatonin will not help me, that it is mostly for older people (I am 36 years old)..as you age Melatonin gets depleted in your body. She also said the only other good use for it was for jetlag. What do you all thinK?

I think it should be taken every night, I took it at a high dose for several months and it did nothing for me so it doesnt work for everyone

I have found that the best thing to take is dramamine(sp?). Good old motion sickness pills. Its very inexpensive at Wal-mart if you get their brand.

Re: UNSUR OF THE CORRECT WAY TO GET THE MOST BENEFIT OUT OFmelatonin??

I don't use Melatonin regualrly but when my scheduale has gotten messed up (say from traveling or just taking a long nap) and when I do take it, it works great. Except it gives me the weirdest dreams... I usually only take one pill thing of it.
Now my mom, on the other hand, is an insomniac and she takes it every night, usually to no avil. And she uped her intake of it to about 2 or 3. So basically, I don't think you should take it everynight. Maybe try every other day or take more than one.
But then again, I heard from one doctor that Melatonin actually helps to regulate your sleep schedule. So if you take it at 10 everynight, then when you stop taking it after a week or so, you will feel the need to go to sleep at about 10. As with most things like this, I bet it's different for everyone. Maybe talk to your doctor about, since they know you and your health better.
