The latest machines are very quiet. Mine is so quiet that sometimes I have to put my hand up to the mask to make sure it is on. A few months ago my mom and I shared a hotel room. She just assumed I didn't use my CPAP because she didn't hear it all night long.
Sometimes the air flow from the mask is troublesome. My husband and I both use CPAP, and when he tries to snuggle the the air blowing from his mask drives me nuts. Of course this can be avoided with certain masks, manipulating your tubing, or just turning over.
All in all I think you will find him using CPAP much less annoying than his snoring. And in a few months he will feel so much better, that everything will be worth it.
Good luck.
