Can't stay asleep - Sleep Disorders Message Board

I have no trouble falling asleep, but I am up constantly going to the bathroom. I do drink alot during the day and I have tried cutting off my water at a certain point at night but then I get cotton mouth. I think I am so tired during the day because I am up 5 or 6 times very night and I never sleep until my alarm goes off. My alarm is set for 6:30 and I tend to wake up at 5:00 and I am not able to go back to sleep.

Are you on any medications?

Yes, I take Allegra, Nasonex, Astelin, Lipitor, Singulair and I am currently on an antibiotic

Well the Lipitor does have frequent urination listed in it's adverse side effects, most cholesterol lowering drugs do. Do you take all of the allergens daily? Both the Allegra and the Nasonex have insomnia listed in their side effects...

What's the antibiotic? A lot of those will cause dry mouth...

I once got into a habit of waking up every hour from 3:37AM on. Literally every night, I would see the clock turn to 3:37AM. I've found it beneficial to face the clock away from the bed so that I can't see the time. I also don't have a clock in the bathroom, or hallway to the bathroom. A doctor once described this issue to me, something about a sleep cycle and your mind...it flew over my head. Bottom line is I stopped allowing myself to see a clock if I wake up, and I stopped waking up...Worth a shot.

I'm going to try that. I too wake up at least hourly and look at the clock. I'm going to try to not look at it anymore and see if there is an improvement. Worth a try anyway.
