I probably can't help much but I will put in my two cents worth anyway. If you are in college I'm sure you are under pressure whether you realize it or not, so that is probably part of the problem. I'm sure a better diet would be healthier but I don't think your diet would cause loss of sleep unless you are drinking lots of coffee, or eating chocolate ( anything with caffiene .)
I do know what you are going through though, I have had a difficult time sleeping for the past several years. I too would stay away from sleep medication if possible. If you do decide to try a mild medication, Tylenol PM is as good as any. Hope this helps a little. Good luck in college !!!
