Any one try Ambien??

Hello all

My doctor just prescribed Ambien because I have a bad case of insomnia due to a really hard breakup. I am a little nervous to take this medication as I hear that you can become addicted and go through withdrawal. How long can you take ambien till you become dependant. Can anyone share there thoughts and expierence with this drug. Im nervous .

Re: Any one try Ambien??

I have taken it before. But it gives me halusinations (sorry im a horrid speller). i have taken it since then and as long as you can get to sleep you just have vivid dreams. My boyfriend took it and he awoke vn the middle of the night and went to the bathroom but on the way started up a conversation with my space heater. i brought it up the next morning and he had a very distant memory of it but thought it was a dream, it was one of the funniest things i have ever seen. he thought the heater was an alien, a nice one but the alien wouldnt talk loud enough for him to hear, all he could make out was a kind of humming(duhh its a heater it humms as it blows out hot air). He and i take it when it is necesary. We neither have felt any need for it or desire to abuse it. The halusinations are funny but the person having them doesnt remember and it only happens if they wake up. its like your dream continues for a few minutes after you wake up. That is wth a normal dose. We dont evther of us do any form of drugs but drug abuse and alchole(see cant spell at all) abuse run in the famly so we are always on the watch out. But we didnt feel urged to use them again.

Re: Any one try Ambien??

I have to agree with the hallucinations part of Ambien. It's a pretty strong drug and I didn't like it at all. I had heard nothing but good things about it, but it gave me really bad cold night sweats and a really upset stomach in the morning. Maybe just try a really small dose at first if you're worried about how it will affect you. If you have any bad reactions to it though, I would stop taking it right away and talk to your doctor again. As far as becoming addicted, I haven't heard of anyone really going off the deep end with it. As long as you take it for what it's for (to sleep) and don't abuse it, you'll be fine.

Re: Any one try Ambien??

yeah, i would have hallucinations too.. first, i'd be laying in bed then the room starts spinning then i'd see these tiny little creatures hopping around then i'd suddenly start laughing, then i'd fall asleep for 6 hours straight (long run on sentence.. ). anyway, i've stopped taking it since i didn't want any addictions. the way i see it, if i only sleep a couple hours a night, so be it. i usually feel fine and get work done during the days regardless anyway so i'm not worried. luckily for you, you can pinpoint what's causing the sleeping problems. i can't.

Re: Any one try Ambien??

I was under the impression that there wasn't much of a chance for physical addiction, however pyschological is another story. I have heard that if Ambien is taken too frequently and one tries to go off of it abruptly, there can be rebound insomnia. I have had no negative effects whatsoever, just a full night's sleep with normal dreams.
