Sleeping WAY too much!!

i have a major sleeping problem. i can sleep for up to 14 hours a day (unless i force myself to get up) i'm tired ALL day, the only time i'm really awake is when i've been awake for a while. i have a VERY hard time getting up. i sleep right through alarm clocks if i haven't got enough sleep -_- about four days ago i slept for about 12 hours... woke up within two hours i was back to sleep for another four. i'm getting so fed up with it that these past two days i've been forcing myself to stay up for at least 15 hours straight.. and sleeping for around six. i don't know how long i can keep it up. its seriously interfering with my life..

little info about me: 18 female, not very active at all (probably a big factor lol) panic disorder, under a lot of stress atm. and don't have the best diet.

please help me out! :'(

Re: Sleeping WAY too much!!

Sometimes sleeping a lot can be a symptom of depression. Are you under treatment for the panic disorder? If so, you may want to ask your doctor about your sleepiness.

Re: Sleeping WAY too much!!

I was and still a bit in your shoes.
i get up easily when I have classes to goto but on weekends or during holidays I can sleep for about 15 hrs a day for weeks. It is to be a problem getting up when i have nothing essential like school, assignment etc to.

I just guess because moved to a new town with no friends and my girlfriend is far away from me so I was a bit bored. I guess doing stuff which engages you other than watching tv could keep you awake.
I also eat less because I found out when I have had a heavy meal that weighs down my stomach, I sleep easily like a log.

Get it checked out now, esp if you are still on your parents insurance. It could be a LOT of things, and bloodwork, PSG's, MSLT's, etc could be required and get VERY costly.
with you being a woman, my first guesses would be
anemia
hypothyroidism
depression (you don't sound like you're too happy with yourself, since your level of attractivity doesn't have anything to do with how much you sleep!)
it could also be narcolepsy, but you are a bit young for that to be showing (tho I was diagnosed @ 18, and suffered since ~13). Do you get excessively sleepy during the day? suffer from bouts of sudden muscle weakness during high emotional states?
If you don't wanna/can't see a dr and wanna try and fix this yourself, I would first start with your diet. Get yourself on a regular eating schedule, small meals (low carb, high-protein) throughout the day. Obviously, if you are overweight (you didn't mention that) you will need to lose weight / exercise. It will be hard because of the cycle you are caught in, tho.
just some suggestions. good luck. sleeping is great, but it can suck. look on the bright side; you aren't an insomniac!
