Waking and dont know where i am - Sleep Disorders Message Board

Twice this has happened in the past two weeks. I wake up from a deep sleep and as im laying on my back, i look up at the ceiling but for about 3 secs, ive no idea where i am and cant figure out what im looking at. Then it becomes clear and i can see im in my room. This is frightening me a lot. Please say this is normal?

It sounds very normal to me. After a deep sleep your body needs a few seconds to re-adjust after it has woken. This also can occur when someone will just suddenly wake you up or scare you from your sleep. It has happened to me before when someone just came up and touched me while I was sleeping and I guess it kind of startles the body, in a sense where you don't know where you are for a few seconds. I wouldn't worry about it.
