Pillar Procedure For Snoring and Apnea - Anyone Had This? - Sleep Disorders Message Board

I'm seeing a doctor soon who performs this procedure. He places pins or rods in the soft palate and this firms this area up and can cure or lessen snoring and sleep apnea. I believe the pins quickly integrate with the tissue and you won't feel or be bothered by them. Anyone had this procedure done, or know of someone who has? Thanks

Never heard of this only the UPPP (uvulaectomy and partial pallet trim). I would question such a procedure. I will ask my MD family members, but the engineer and scientist in me would tell me not to do such a thing and to get a second opinion.

I had the Pillar Procedure 2 1/2 weeks ago which is a very simple procedure and not noticable on my upper palate. However, I believe in many cases (if it is obstructive sleep apnea) that more than one procedure needs to be done to open the breathing passage.

At the same time that I had the Pillar Procedure I also had radio frequency done on the base of my tongue to reduce the size and open the throat (this was very painful at the time as one side was not frozen enough)- yikes!!!! I also had a uvalectomy which was the most painful in the recovery process. Just unbelievable. Not a good way to go on a diet. My breathing already feels more open but some things are still swollen. Just starting to eat a little more normal again, but slowly.

I think if I had it to do over again I would want to be put out. I was awak thru the whole process.
