If Lunesta Works For You, How Long Before Bed Should You Take It?

Hello. I have tried Lunesta before and it did nothing, but my dr gave me samples again and I'm thinking maybe people take it an hour, half hour, etc. before bed.

I'd like it to work for me perhaps right before bed isn't the best way.

I hope to hear from someone.

Thank you!

I take it right when I am laying down for the night. Sometimes I will watch a little t.v. while it kicks in and that doesn't take long. It takes about thirty minutes for mine to really start working but I can lay down to sleep before that and drift off. This is on 3mg. I tried 2mg and it took awhile to start working and only put me to sleep but didn't keep me asleep.

Thanks pynkett. The samples are 2mg. and that could be my problem. Do you know people who take 4 mg.?

Maybe I could split one of the pills?

That is what I do...I split some pills and take one 2mg and half a 2mg pill. I will warn you .. until you can get 3mg pills.. the half pills, unless swallowed pretty fast, taste pretty nasty. Lunesta has a coating so you don't get the nasty taste of the pill but when you split them then of course the coating won't be there.
I've read about people taking up to 6mg on the internet but I don't know much about that personally. You could talk to your doctor about that if 3mg don't work.

I am going to my Dr. in about a week to get 3mg pills. Right now the Dr. started me on 2mg and that is what I have also. I also wonder if splitting them makes them work faster....

Re: If Lunesta Works For You, How Long Before Bed Should You Take It?

Lunesta:

Pharmacokinetic Facts:
In healthy normal subjects ( I am assuming this is you all), the pharmacokinetic profile after once-daily administration of 1, 3, and 6 mg for 7 days shows eszopiclone(Lunesta) is rapidly absorbed. The time to peak concentration is approximately 1 hour. With a terminal-phase elimination half-life (t1/2) of approximately 6 hours (so once at max it should hold you in the sleep state for six hours.). In healthy adults (you all I hope), Lunesta does not accumulate with once-daily administration, and its exposure is dose-proportional over the range of 1 to 6 mg. (This means it will not buold to toxic levels in your system and the dose that works for you between 1-6 mg should stay that way.)

Absorption And Distribution
Eszopiclone is rapidly absorbed following oral administration and thus you need only take it within the hour of your desired bed time. Peak plasma concentrations are achieved within approximately 1 hour after oral administration.

This is the laymans interpreted pharmacological data for you.

Sincerely,
MG
