camping with a cpap - Sleep Disorders Message Board

I intend to go for a week long camping trip at a remote camping ground and i would like to take my cpap machine(which runs on 240 volts) with me but there is no power source at the camping ground i have heard of people using inverters with 12 volt batteries but as i cannot recharge the battery during the week that i am there i am stumped for a solution. The manual suggests an inverter off at least 200 watts. Does anybody know how many hours that i would get out of a deep cycle battery?

I haven't seen a battery that promises more than 25 hours of use for CPAP in my searches. The actual duration changes with your pressure requirement. Camping and keeping up with sleep apnea treatment is rough. GOod luck. Let us know what you find out.

Thanks mkgbrook. It is not easy without spending megabucks on solar panels'inverters and batteries.

Are you taking a car or vehicle that you can recharge your battery in once a day? I know it isn't the optimal way to go.. but it might increase the use of a 12V battery and allow for continued treatment? Just a thought. I am not sure how long you would have to run the car for to recharge the battery though. If you could make do with 5-6 hours sleep on the CPAP and partial recharging of the battery like this and the $50-100 cable converter set this might be your best option. Sleep apnea can be a pain. Good luck finding a solution.

thanks that has given me a new train of thought i will speak to an auto electrician. Due to the mileage involved on our trip we have to be a bit careful with our petrol consumption.
