It's possible that you may have a circadian sleep disorder (in other words, your internal clock isn't keeping time with the rest of the world)...there are several different kinds.
1. Delayed sleep phase disorder is when you fall asleep very late at night and wake up late the next day.
2. Advanced sleep phase disorder is when you fall asleep early (at supper time for example) and wake up very, very early the next day.
3. Irregular sleep-wake rhythm is where you sleep off and on over the course of 24 hours.
4. Free-running (nonentrained) sleep disorder is when you fall asleep later and later every day.
Sleep specialists sometimes ask patients to keep sleep diaries for several weeks before coming in for an appointment/sleep study. These diaries may show patterns
in sleep pointing to a specific circadian rhythm disorder (the diaries also provide the specialists with other info, as well, for the detection and treatment of sleep disorders).
Some diaries are simple, others not so...but you may want to keep one to see if a pattern emerges...if you decide to see a sleep specialist, the information recorded on the diary may be an important component in your treatment.
