Lithium for sleep?

I don't know what to do anymore. I've been trying all the sleeping pills in the market...they only helps for 2-3 hours sleep.
WHat else can make me sleep? I've heard lithium helps sleep.
Is there anybody out there who takes lithium and sleep many hours?(like 7-9 hours).
Your answers are greatly appreciated.

Re: Lithium for sleep?

I was a terrible insomniac- awake till 3.30 or 4am every night- & then falling asleep at work. In desperation I went to a hypnotist & after 6 sessions I was sleeping again after 10 years of being unable to sleep! It has changed my life I can tell you! I don't know about lithium but I wish you all the best! Do let us know how you go!

Re: Lithium for sleep?

A pill is not the answer (especially lithium)...first you must find out why you are not sleeping....do you have any ideas?

Re: Lithium for sleep?

well, I can't sleep cause I suffer 24/7 from neck pain. Everytime when I put my neck on my pillow(no matter in what position, left or right) I suffer neck pain.

Re: Lithium for sleep?

Recently it's been discovered that Lithium effects the internal clock - literally the CLOCK gene - and might someday help regulate wayward circadian rhythms. http://www.nimh.nih.gov/science-news/2006/lithium-blocks-enzyme-to-help-cells-clocks-keep-on-tickin.shtml

Lithium is not a pain pill, nor does it cause sedation.

It sounds to me like you need to see a pain management specialist. Neck pain is awful! I've had muscle spasms in my neck on and off for years. Mine started after a car accident but now usually flares up only when I'm under stress. I've never found a truly comfortable pillow - those pillows supposedly designed specifically for neck pain are the worst! Now I use a big fluffy pillow that I can shape anyway I want and that's worked out ok.
