Tramadol for Insomnia

I've had trouble sleeping so I finally went to the doctor. I was given Tramadol to take only when needed in order to help me get some sleep at night. The prescription information says that Tramadol is a pain medication. I've not been able to find any information about taking Tramadol for insomnia. Does this sound like something a person with insomnia should take?

Re: Tramadol for Insomnia

Im currently taking tramadol, but not for sleeping. Im taking it for pain. It helps me sleep by putting me out of pain but i dont think its usually prescribed for pain. If you do use it, maybe taking it an hour to a couple hours before going to sleep might work.

Re: Tramadol for Insomnia

tramadol is a painkiller similar to narcotics. I was on it in the past for back pain. never helped me sleep that Im aware of.

Ive never heard of it being used for sleep, must be an off label type of thing.
