Glass of wine with Ambien? - Sleep Disorders Message Board

I know you shouldn't mix alcohol and sleep aids, and I'm not really a drinker. But, if I have a glass of wine with my dinner, or a glass of wine later after dinner (and I'm talking ONE glass for the entire night) can I still take my Ambien when I go to bed? or, am I going to accidentally kill myself if I do this? I'm new to the Ambien, and I know when I was taking Paxil at night the doctor said it was okay to have a glass of wine. I'm terrified of accidentally hurting myself!

I'd love a professional response to this question. My ex who knows simply everything there is to know, tells me if I take my Ambien and as little as one glass of wine, I will die in my sleep. "They both operate on the same area of the brain" says he! True or False? Anyone????

I often drink a couple of beers late in the afternoon before taking Ambien, and I'm still alive to tell about it. I've never tried drinking in the evening. I'm not saying it's OK for you. You should talk to your prescribing Dr. before you do it.
