Trazadone dosage for insomnia??? - Sleep Disorders Message Board

hello. For those of you that take Trazadone (for insomnia), how much do you take to help with your sleep? My dr. said to try the 50mg and if that does not work go up to 100 mg and I tried that last night and it did help me relax but I was still not sleepy! Any ideas.? Thank you!!!! This sleep issue is trying to ruin my life!!! but I will not let it!!!!!!

I take 50 mg. It doesn't make me fall asleep; it just helps turn my brain off for a while so I can go to sleep. I think it takes a while to get used to the meds. The first night I took it, it took a few hours for me to fall asleep. Usually, it takes 1-2 hours for it to kick in, at least for me.

why trazadone? try a different medication for sleep. any benzo derivative will help i guess but then you need to increase and increase the dose. lyrica also suppose to promote sleep, it just stopped working for me. my doc increased my lyrica dose i'm now on 150mg...it still doesn't work. without sleep i just cannot function.

I will try the Trazadone and hope it helps. If not I will ask the dr. about Lyrica. I tried for months to not take anything for sleep except some melatonin now and then. It did not work. I am just nervous about having to take a med for sleep every night! I am only 40 and just can't see myself still having to be on sleep meds when I am 60!!! Then I worry that I will find something that works and I depend on it and then it stops working!!! Right now I have a 5 year old and I decided to heck with it, I will try the meds because I would rather take a pill then fall asleep during the day and be late picking my son up from pre-k ( has happened twice already). What is the best way to not get a tolerance to the med..at least for awhile? Maybe I should try taking it every other night and see what happens?! Thanks all

Some time ago I was prescribed temazepam for my insomnia and
it worked well for me, but after awhile the daytime after effects
bothered me too much so a different doctor prescribed ambien
which was designed for insomnia relief (unlike many for which
sleep is a side effect). I used it sparingly and now I fall asleep
easily without medication. Things change, luckily. But not always
for the better.
